How to Care for New Clear Braces

Understanding how to care for your clear braces is necessary in order for them to do the job they are supposed to do: straighten your teeth. When you decide that you need to wear braces so you can benefit from having straighter teeth, it means that you are making a commitment to the teeth straightening process. This commitment means you need to carefully follow all instructions when it comes to caring for new braces.

Why are clear braces so popular?

Want to know why clear braces are such a popular choice among those who are in need of teeth straightening services? The fact that clear braces work just as well as traditional metal braces yet are much more discreet is the main reason why both teenagers and adults are choosing this option nowadays. Instead of wearing metal braces that are quite obvious when being worn, the option to replace the metal with ceramic or porcelain that blends in with the teeth makes them barely noticeable.

How to care for new clear braces

The information below allows new wearers of clear braces to understand how to properly care for them, which is important so that the braces can properly do their job.

Brush teeth at least two times a day, preferably three

Brushing the teeth using a soft-bristled toothbrush and a quality toothpaste is necessary in order for one to maintain their good oral hygiene. This is especially important when wearing braces, as food particles tend to not only get stuck in between the teeth, they also get stuck in between the brackets and wires. Since it is possible for clear braces to stain, brushing the teeth three times a day vs. the regular two times a day is recommended.

Floss teeth at least once a day, preferably two

Flossing is also necessary in order to remove any food particles that may be stuck in the teeth, brackets or wires. While flossing once a day is recommended, those who are wearing clear braces are encouraged to floss their teeth at least twice a day in order to remove any food particles. There are different types of floss that wearers can choose from, making it so that they have choices when it comes to which type of dental floss they want to use.

Make a list of things that can potentially stain braces

While choosing clear braces is a great idea because they are a much more discreet teeth straightening option, it is possible for them to stain when consuming certain foods and drinks. This makes it a good idea for wearers to make a list of foods and drinks that can potentially stain their braces. They can choose to avoid eating what is on this list, or they can continue consuming those foods and drinks but know that they need to brush their teeth or immediately rinse their mouth after consuming in order to avoid unsightly stains.
